Ecotourism is the catchphrase for sustainable travel in today�s environmentally conscious world. However ecotourism destinations need not only to be certified, but should have a follow up to ensure that their green standards are maintained.

The world over, ecotourism business, is growing at about 30 percent a year. Ecotourism destinations attract about 15 percent of the global tourist market. In such a scenario many destinations are out there to just earn money and in effect actually harm the environment.
Australia has set a fine example with its accreditation program, which puts forth tougher goals for operators. Costa Rica has a scale of compliance under which top marks might go to a company whose headquarters was run on environmentally friendly lines, for instance with solar power.

About a tenth of the world’s land area is in protected areas, putting more in parks will help the environment, and ecotourism. Though there are limits to growth for ecotourism, because some where ecotourism somewhere itself erodes the environment.
